After conducting a comprehensive external and internal survey, it became clear that one thing was missing from the NRG Radio Uganda lineup — a dynamic sports show that speaks to today’s sports fans, especially the youth.Featuring music star and lifelong sports enthusiast Rickman and passionate presenter Winnie Mbabazi, the NRG Offside show came to life that runs from 11AM to 1PM every Saturday.
Rickman, known for his music, actually has deep roots in sports. “I grew up in a sports family,” he shared. “All my life, sports has always been a part of me.” His journey into music, he explained, was sparked by an injury during his football days. “I tore my ACL(Anterior Cruciate Ligament). That gave me time to explore music — but I’ve always had a strong passion for sports.”Winnie Mbabazi, on the other hand is on a mission to make sports accessible, inclusive, and fun for everyone especially the women and the youth. Winnie shared “There are so many female athletes in Uganda doing amazing things, but they don’t get the attention they deserve. We’re here to change that.”
One of the segments to look out for is “On The Streets”— a fun and engaging street segment where they ask the public sports questions, bringing in the voice of the people. “We want to go out, play paddle, talk rugby, netball, and even golf,” Rickman says. “We’re not just sitting in the studio debating. We’re taking the sports show into the real world.” Still on the show , there is an educational part of the show that breaks down complex sports concepts for beginners to help inspire but also educate .
Unlike most sports shows that sit in a studio and dive deep into statistics, NRG Offside is more than just analysis — it’s entertainment. “We’re about the banter, the vibe, the passion,” Rickman says. “It’s not politics. Sports should be fun. We’re bringing energy, jokes, and even music into the mix.”
