With Egypt leading the continent’s numbers at 37 million users, followed by Nigeria at 23.84 million and South Africa at 17 million. However, despite Africa’s significant contributions, its creators remain on the sidelines of TikTok’s monetization programs, a stark contrast to the United States, where 150 million users contribute to a thriving creator economy.

In regions like the United States and the United Kingdom, TikTok compensates creators through the Creator Fund, paying between $0.02 and $0.04 per 1,000 views translating to $20-$40 for a million views. Unfortunately, without direct monetization options, African creators rely on brand deals , sponsorships , facing financial instability.

As TikTok contends with global scrutiny, equitable monetization policies are essential to unlocking Africa's creative potential and ensuring its creators are not left behind.
To fully harness Africa’s creative potential, TikTok must prioritize
policies and expand its monetization efforts to include the continent. Until this happens, African creators will continue to showcase boundless creativity but remain constrained by the system.
